Just a short note

This weekend I decided to close my website. Hosting my website, blog and face-book page cost me a lot of time. Time that I need for bear making.

So the buttons above will not work for a short time, but during the next weeks I will renew my blog that it works like a website. I’m not a great fan of this website-blog mix but as I said..lots of time. I also don’t take part in any competition this year. 2012 will be under the motto “Pick your battles”.

And one of the first “battles” is a sweet Panda I’m working on. So watch this space to meet him in the upcoming week. Here is sneak peek:

Back after a creative break

Hope you had a good start to 2012. I know it is a bit late for good wishes but better late than never

During the last weeks many people asked me what was going on with the Wild Things.And my short answer is: nothing.

I had a creative break. Betweenwhiles I need a new challenge to recharge my batteries, that means for me to do something different.

For two month I created no new bears, only finished my customer list, painted a lot, tried a bit mixed media art, redecorated Sophie’s room and the bathrooms. Celebrated Christmas, a new year and my birthday. Now I report back to my work with new bears and ideas.

Have a break

Between two bear (or better between the bears of the online show, my latest bear Mary-Kay and the next guy) I needed a break to make something different.
At the moment it is very hot outside but I'm sure next autumn is coming and so I went to the next wool shop to buy some lovely tweed wool. Wasn't very simple in the middle of summer, but here is the result of my efforts.
I knitted a nice short vest for me and unsurprisingly another one for Sweet Sophie (again a visit at the wool shop for more tweed in a different color) Sophies vest is still in progress.

Retro but still sweet

These days I'm working hard on my bears for the online show Bears On Parade. And it is a challenge to create a Wild Thing for under 100 $!
Than I was thinking what to do, I found one of my patterns from the end of the 80s.
I started bear making 35 years ago with classic bears and funny bears with big noses and big feet, but when I saw a care bear I knew that this was the kind of bears I would like to create. On my blog (think it is under 2009)I published a photo that shows me making one of my first own care-bear-looking bears. These early Wild Things have only one joint between head and body and the body is sitting and made in one piece.
And so I have sewn a bear for the show from this old pattern that I made long long ago. But - how life goes- Sophie saw this little guy and fall in love with him and as a loving mother I can't say no. So this little sweet pink cuddly guy will not be in the online show. And that brings my back to the beginnig of this post - I have to go now to work hard on my bears.... I lost one.

On Sunday I was thinking about some ebay-autcions but I hadn't any new templates at the moment.
And so I bought a new one (see it at the right side) from my favourite template designer April Lewis. If you think to buy a template for your auctions visit Aprils website: http://www.raggedydreams.com/ or look at her offers on ebay under the same name.
For my opinion April is one of the best. Her templates are beautiful and her instructions are great and if you still have problems she gives you a helping hand via mail, patient and professional. It is so easy to use - everybody can do it.

I reduced her price and hope that she will find a nice new Mum very soon. She is such a lovely dog, she doesn't loose hair, she doesn't bark and you don't have to make a walk with her on a rainy day. Isn't it nice?
Now I'm back to my new white faux fur bear and trimming the seams he is loosing hairs - I look like a snowmen in summer at the moment ;O(

We are not only working - oh no. Sometimes we have a lot of fun.

Today we had a mother-daugther-power-shopping-day. Started our treasure hunt early in the morning and came home with our shopping bags in the afternoon.

One of the pieces we found in our favourite shop I would like to share. It is that sensational bag. We couldn't resist to gave this bag a new and loving home.

Second chance for Suzy

Sometimes girls need a new dress. And it seems to be that Suzy wasn't happy with that she was wearing. So I created a new dress for her and hope that she will find a new mum very soon.
At the moment I'm working on a new website with Sweet Sophie. The old one is running for a couple of years now but I wasn't really happy with the result.
I couldn't upload my own background design, add paypal buttons, or place my photos were ever I like them.
Turning my blog into a website, that is very popular at the moment, I find a bit boring. And so I'm fighting with html, css and adding links and navbars.
Believe me I'm not a profi with all this things but I like the challenge. You could be curious if my website will run in a few weeks;O)

A hurried glance on the calendar showed me that it is the right time for the annual bunny. And here is Suzy a sweet alpaca girl, she is around 13.4"/34cm with a ruffle around her neck and one of the felted flowers I have made a few weeks ago. Suzy will be at my bearpile account tonight.

Surfing trough the www looking for a birthday present (of course a painting tool) for sweet Sophie I came to a website that offers a little bottle with a liquid that helps you to wet felt at the drop of a hat.

Normaly I'm not a wet felter - like the result very much but it is to slow.

But this bottle was exactly the thing I need. Two days later the parcel arrived and I could start.
And..........it worked wonderful. I had felted a pile of flowers it in the twinkling of an eye.

Now I'm thinking how to use them, some will be for the bears and one will be for my mother as a brooch for summer (Mother's Day gift ?)

A fairy for the Blooming Bear Show

What a week!

My goodness that was week for us.

Most of the time I was in hopital this week - not as patient but as a vistor. Sweet Sophie had a
tonsillectomy, not unexpected but faster as we thought. From December on her health was very bad and this was the only way to recover.

To tell you something about Caesar... I'm very happy that he found such a good echo. I wasn't sure if you would like him. For all of you who missed him, I'm also planning a Panda and a Polar Bear with this more life-like look.

Cordial thanks to Waltraud Rickel and Joanne Livingston for their great turorials about teeth and claw making.

Sophie is at home now and I'm sure that we all find back to our daily routine.

In January I had my 50. birthday and my sweet Sophies idea was to create something very special for this birthday.

I use my WILD THINGS logo with the polar bear for so many years now and she tought that I need a new fresh one.

As a surprise she made a new avatar for me at facebook and also new hanging tags and business cards. And today is the day where the first bear with the new tag will be on bearpile.

I think the new design looks great - for the case that you need a new and modern look - contact sweet Sophie.

Today is New Years eve and that is always a reason to look back - in anger or not.

2010 was a year like many other before. It had ups and downs. I won my first award -The Golden Teddy Award- but I also had to stay at the hospital until Christmas eve because of an undiscovered pneumonia. That's one reason why you had to wait for my nose tutorial, the other one was that poor Sophie was ill for more than three weeks with the same germs that striked me down.

But on the other side we had a quite but nice Christmas and the whole family is well.
And we look forward to say "Hello 2011" Let us see what suprises this year will hold for us.

I close my 2010 bearbook with Sylvia, the definitively last bear of this year and the first one of 2011.
She will be on bearpile tomorrow, because I'm sure that nobody is buying bears on New Years Eve.

The little Darling has a new home because he was done for a customer.

It seems to be that we have a new family member since last Wednesday. He was hanging around in our garden for more than one week in very poor condition.

We had no success to find his old home, so we gave him food and the vet health care he needed.

Our other cats are "indoor" cats but we think that our strayer was living a free life and we will give him the possibility to go outside.

We will see what happens and that he comes back to us!

10 Steps to nice eyelids

A lot of people had asked me how I make this or that and so I had the idea to write a few little tutorials from time to time.

Today I'll start with eyelids.

There are different ways to create them, but one way - which is very popular in Germany and I use for many years now, is to work with a poly resin which is called Fimo. I'm sure that you will find it also in other countrys. It's a fast, simple and cheap way for eyelids.

Step 1:

You need two crocodile clamps with metal feet (don't use plastic, it will melt in your oven) two glass eyes (no plastic) and Fimo.
You can mix with Fimo every color you like. For examle I mix black and brow to get a nice black color, which is not too dark. You can also mix white and black for fantastic grey.

Step 2:

Take a little ball of Fimo - use the color you like and roll it in your hand until it is warm and smooth. The eye on the photo is 13mm/ 0.5" (to show you the proportion)

Step 3:

Press the little ball under the right or left side of the eye.

Step 4:

Mold with your fingers the outer corner of the eye.

Step 5:

Make another ball and start to scroll it on the table until you get an evenly spread roll of Fimo. Press it, so that you get a flat "roll".

Step 6:

Halve the Fimo roll and bring it up to your eye with the closed side on the eye corner and press the open ends under the other side of the eye.
Its very important that the roll is firmly fixed to the backside of the eye and the corner of the eye. Use the blunt side of a darning needle (be careful with the other side) to correct the shape.

Step 7:

You see your eyelid is nearly ready. Follow Fimos directions to dry it in the oven. (I put my eyes with the metal crocodil clamps into the oven, so that nothing can morph them.)

Step 8:

If everything is cooled down, take the eye carefully out of the lid.

Step 9:

Cut a small felt half moon and fix it with a drop of glue in the corner of the eyelid. You can also put a glue drop under the eye. Bring the glass eye back into the eyelid.

Step 10:

Congrats! Here are your new eyes with nice eyelids. My personal tip is to make every step first on the right side and then on the left side (or other way round. So you can see the diffrence between the eyes and its not to late to correct it.
You can create every shape you like and you can also add lashes and keep it in position with the Fimo eyelid.

Winter is back

At first foggy days and than....

Yesterday it started snowing. But we didn't take that seriously and then this morning the rude surprise. Winter was back! I love snow, but not Monday morning.

Driving to school with Sophie wasn't very funny. The roads were pretty slippery and I slide more trough the streets than I drove. But I hope this too will pass.

Don't wonder that you don't hear -or see- much from me at the moment. I have a long list with bears for collectors from the last year and one New Years resolution was to work it off as soon as possible.

Think that there will be a polar bear in early Fenruary, as I do for someone two bears for selection.

Friday is my favourite day of the week. The week is just behind you and the weekend comes in sight. Two wonderful days without obligations (mostly).

This week I hadn't much time for the bears. I worked as Santas little helper and had some busy days as power-shopper for the last christmas presents. And I had a wonderful brunch with one of my oldest friends, who is living in Poland now. We haven`t much opportunities to see each other and so every second counts.
Also found a loving home for my darling Carl and made pics from the christmas rose I bought. See below.

Saw this little cartoon in a magazine. It is from my famous cartoonist Ulli Stein. I love his way to look at things in our daily life.

This was a perfect weekend.
We had a birthday party with hubbys aunt at a wonderful country club. It was a delicious dinner with lots of fun and nice talks.
And the day before the anual winter crafts- and hobby market started. I bought a scarf for me and some gloves for Sophie. Also so met two lovely ladys. Both make glass beads and jewellery. I went home with a cute bead in a soft grey with soft pink roses and green leafs. It fits perfect to my trollbead chain.

But there is a light in Recklinghausen. Friday night the annual light show started. For two weeks public buildings and old houses are covered and painted with light. At the opening weekend was a great atmosphere with music and a car-free inner city. So share this great feeling with me.

PUMPKINS!!!

Hello I'm back again. During the last weeks I had a lot of health problems and after a short visit to the hospital and a lots of visits at my doctor, I'm back to work.
I'll start with a brand new puppy desin on ebay tonight.

And I made the first pumpkin quiche of the year. I'm crazy about pumpkins - as decoration and as food. Pumpkins are a great vegetable and you can cook a lot of dishes with them.
And than the autumn decoration - all the perfect colors between orange and red. I'm never sad if the summer says good-bye - can't wait to decorat the house from the hall to the attic.

And thank you for all the lovely mails. I'll now start to answer each mail step by step!!!

Summerholidays started with perfect weather last week.

But at the weekend the weather was very close and changed and today is a rainy day.

Perfect to get back to my sewing machine. I'm working on a very large guy at the moment. Normaly my bears are around 13-14", but this bear is a "big" challenge. The fur is so lovely and perfect for a big Wild Thing.

Isn't it sweet!!!. Yesterday I bought this little picnic equipment.

One of my friends has a shop with wonderful things. She is always an inspiration for bear accessoires.

And this little tea service is prefect for my bears. At the moment I'm not sure to keep it or give it away with a bear. Sophie says - keep it - but this is not a big surprise. We will see.

A few weeks ago, I promised an old bear photo, that shows me making an early version of one of my bears. At this time I was so in love with the little care bears and they were the first inspiration at this time.
Today I was scanning some old photos from my father to save them and there I found the old bear photo again
My hubby made it in 1989, I had to stay at home with a cold and I looked horrible!!!!! So please, don't laugh.

Nice Felted Things

Oh my god, I'm afraid that I have to clean my blog from spiderwebs. It was a very busy start into 2009. My birthday (not to much to do) Spohies birthday (very much to do) and all the annual doctors visits you have to take care off.
But Easter is just around the corner and next week the easter holidays will start and thats wonderful. My poor Garden also needs a visit. Another point on my never endig list of things....

Two weeks ago I visited a wonderful art-fair. There were a lot of beautiful felted things. Coming home I started with a felt project - the bag you can see on the photo. It is knitted from grey wool and than felted in the washing-machine. Love the result. I made this bag for me, but Sophie saw it and it was gone.

The black scarf is from the art-fair. It is made in nuno-technique. This is Japanese and means something like - connecting silk and felt - you can create beautiful things with it and I'm thinking about some sweet scarfs for the bears. Oh where is my list, another project I have to add on.

First Victim of this winter

Last night it was -20 °C and as we opend the shades, we found outside this poor little soul. This cute shrew-mouse was sitting deep frozen on our garden table.

Also other visitors try to come in. Our cat Cookie has caught a mouse at the attic, she was building a nest from my fur. Not so funny!!!!

Snow is high and the temperature deep and car driving isn't funny at the moment.

Hello to you outside in blogland. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a good start into 2009.

I have been absent for a while.

Our December was nice until 12.11. Our wonderful cat Sunny died suddenly and unexpected. He was such a wonderful cat, like a human beeing reborn in the body of a cat.
I have cats for more than 30 years now, but there was no cat like him all these years, only the caracter of our ragdoll Iman came close to him.
I decided, that we don't buy a new cat and so we now have only our two cats Cookie and Korken.
But that was not the end of bad luck.
4 days later I became so ill, that my doc gave me the commitment to the hospital. Now I feel much better, but in February I have to see my doc again to decide if I need an op.
On 12.24 my laptop had a breakdown and everything inside was lost. Wonderful - and during the holidays nobody was working.

The first thing I did in 2009 was to buy a little portabel black box to store all importent information outside the PC for a second time.

I'm very sorry that I hadn't contacted all my friends outside and that I wasn't able to write any Christmas-Card (wasn't able to buy a tree - my father-in-law was so nice to do this for us).
Next week we are back to normal life. On Wednesday Sophie will go school again, tomorrow morning hubby is also back to work and I'll be back to my sewing machine at the attic. Making new bears for 2009.
And I'll will start to contact all friends and fans of the Wild Things.

I hadn't fallen form the earth (perhaps some people feel sorry now). It was a lot to do during the last weeks and I was ill for two weeks. Sophies homework for school is also a lot of work at the moment and I feel like making my A-level again.
But I made a cute new bear, who will be on ebay tonight (21:30). Post the link and a picture later on. At my website you could see first pics.
By the way pic. Searching some christmas decoration at the attic, I have found some old pics.
You could see me there, 18 years ago making one of my first bears with sweet faces. The inspiration was a tv-film with little bears called "Care Bears".
They had big squarred heads and large cute eyes. I was totaly crazy to create a bear looking like them. The photo was taken in November 1990, I had a horrible cold (I look like my on ghost there)and had to stay at home. Perhaps I could scan this pic because it not digital.

Autumn impressions

I just came home from town with Sophie. We had to buy some things for "daily survival". We live a bit outside the town and its more countryside here.

Driving through the streets I was impressed by the beautiful nature. Had no camera with me (always the same old story), but this time my cell phone was by my side and I stopped and took some pics. The weather was bad and so you cant see the wonderful colours, but think it is enough for a short impression.

..to all persons, who hadn't got any mail about new WILD THINGS.

During the last weeks I get mails from persons from my mailing list, that they havn't got any information. I don't know why? Now I'm thinking to change my mailing system, because this problem happend again and again. And on my side of the pc everythings seems to be okay.

My daugther Sophie has the idea, that a little monster lives in the pc and eats all my mail. She painted it for my and you can see the result above. It is cute and it would be nice to ask it, why it couldn't eat the spam instead the important mails !!!!

On Sunday I visited with my sister-in-law and the children a local farm.

You could pick apples there and they have a lot of pumpkins. It was wonderful weather and I felt so angry that I forgot my camera, also my i-phone. I c o u l d n't take any picture!!! But we bought a lot of wonderful things.

Today it was raining cats and dogs, so Sophie and me decided to cut a face into our pumpkin we brought with us. The result you can see below.

Yesterday we made pumpkin-soup. Delicious!!!! Hope to find the time to share my recipe (have to transform from gr. to oz.)

A big, big party

Two weeks ago my parents-in-law were married for 50 years.

In Germany you call it golden wedding. Its a very long time to stay together and share good things and bad things. Congratiulations !!!!

But last sunday the good things had overweight. We had a wonderful family and friends celebration at one of my favourite restaurants here in our area. It is located at the local forest and you can walk and swim and relax, because it is also a wonderful wellness hotel.

I would like to share some pics, I made before the family-storm started.

Unnecessary to tell you that we had a lot of fun as always at family-meetings.

I have got a lot of mails from people, who asked me for a new rabbit. And so I made a new one. This weekend I hadn't seen much outside of my work-room and I just finished Hermine (Sohpie gave her this name). Hope to bring her up to e-bay on Monday or Tuesday. If there is a loving heart outside in bolgland, who wants to give her a new home before, contact me for more information. And I also worked with my cat-pattern. The cats I had made before, looked more than comic cats and I'm dreaming of a more realistic cat. But is it sometime a hard piece of work to bring out, what is inside your head and than to draw it on a piece of paper.

A few days ago Sophie and hubby came home from swimming. (Thats their hobby. I don't like to swim and so my part is horsriding)
It was a rainy night and the door bell rang. I went to the front door and opened and Sophie showed me her hand with a frog sitting in the palm of her hand. "Look Mum, he was sitting on the stair of the door, isn't he cute?

"Of course he is realy cute, but be a good girl and don't give him a kiss, if he could talk and asks you to do this", I said to her.

"Why not, are you afraid that he makes me ill, if I kiss him?" Sohie answered me.

Looking at hubby I replied: "No honey - but think about the fun we will have with a talking frog and what shall we do with another prince."

Feeling fine

Normally I visit my hairdresser between five and six weeks. But I had to cancel the last date and so 8 !!! weeks passed by.

I was looking like a witch after her ride on a broomstick. My hair is a littlebit curly and it started to turn into white, when I was 18 years old (this is a family problem - my father and my grandma had this problem too). So I was the perfect actress for every horror-film.

But yesterday I had my date.

When I came to the salon my hairdresser said only: oh my goodness!! But this lovley lady gave me my life back. After two hours with a lot of colour and aluminium-foil on my had and a perfect cut, I looked like my younger sister ( I have no younger sister).
After this wonderful experience I jumped into my car and drove to school to fetch Sophie. I felt ten years younger and I was sure that Sophie would cry:"Mom you look beautiful!"
But my cute girlie opend the door - looked on my head and said: "What has happend to you?"

I had a second chance.

At night hubby came home and I said: "Hey- hope you had a nice day, I had an appointment with Mrs Maurer (this is my hairdresser". He looked at me and said: "Why did you miss her?"
This brought my feet back to the ground !!!!!

In my second life I'll come back as a single man.

Weekend

This weekend passed by very quick.
It was a long week for all of us. Meeting new and old friends at the new school for Sophie. New books and a looong list for Mummy with all the things she has to buy for school. Shoes for sport and exercise-books,satchels and pencils. Intersting to see how fast you can spend your money.

But on Saturday we relaxed at the cinema. Wonderful - during the summer holidays we worked as a rabbit-sitter for a friend- and to say "thanks" she invited us to the cinema. It was the second part of Narnia. In Germany it is called "Prince Kaspian" He is a handsome, but little stupid guy, but the film has an happy end. (I liked so much the speaking badger and the little mouse.)

And... there will be a new bear on e-bay tonight. Remember I promised violet for this season!!!!!

Eight - Eleven

Tomorrow is an important day for our whole family. At first it is my parents wedding day. They are now married for 57 years. The only problem is, that my father died two years ago suddenly and unexpected and so this day is for the third time a sad day.

But it is also a step to the future. The holidays are over tomorrow and Sophie will start with her new school. The morning begins with a visit at the church for children and family. We will take my mother with us, so that she can see her grand-daugther starting into a new period of life.

And I hope that we will have a nice lunch after school !!!!!

I'm glad that we are back to normal life, with a normal daily routine (more time for bearmaking) but I h a t e it to stand up at 6 o' clock in the morning!!!

Last not least is tomorrow my name-day.

Think that is pretty much for a Monday.

Summer in the city....

This week the weather was sooooo hot. It was hard to work at the attic with plush and fur. I couldn't open the attic-window, because this would be a wounderful chance for my cats to climb upon the roof and I didn't want to call the fire-brigade to bring them back.
Working like the devil in hell, I had the idea to make a bear, who offers the illusion of fresh air and coolness. You can see the result on ebay.com tonight. Hope you like her and feel a cool shiver on your back.

In Love With Violet

At so moment I'm so crazy about violet, lilac, plum and all this wounderful colours.
Violet is THE colour for the next winter and I bought some great merino wool and at Sylt some lovely ribbons. I just finished a new bear and thing about a violet dress.
For my self I have bought a very soft violet pullover. I can't wait to wear him!!!!

We are back from our holiday. We had to say good-bye to Sylt, my favourite island at the north sea.
It is always hard to go, but it is also great to be at home!!!!

But this morning started with a shock. My mother phoned me in the early morning totaly upset, that a lot of water came through the wall, running into her cellar and asked me what to do. We called the waterworks to chancel the water and at the moment a team of workers is killing my mums poor garden to find the water main burst. With rubberboots on my feet pumping the cellar, I felt like back to the coast.
